Saint-Petersburg. June 5. INTERFAX-Former journalist Ivan Safronov, who was arrested on charges of treason, continues to be an employee of Roscosmos, said the head of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin.
"He continues to be our employee until there is a change in his fate," Rogozin told reporters on Saturday.
At the time of his arrest, Safronov served as an adviser to the head of Roscosmos. On July 7, it will be a year since Safronov is in custody.
"Mr. Safronov is under investigation. Any of my statements, especially public ones, can do harm... We must be as careful as possible and not interfere in the judicial process. There the defense is competent, they collect the necessary materials. Let's hope that this situation will be resolved, " Rogozin added, answering a question about his attitude to the trial of Safronov.
According to the defense, the investigation believes that Safronov was recruited by a representative of the Czech special service in 2012, and in 2017 he gave her secret information related to Russia's military-technical cooperation in Africa and the actions of the Russian Armed Forces in the Middle East. The final recipient of the secret information, according to the investigation, was the United States.
Safronov pleads not guilty and believes that the criminal case is related to his journalistic activities.
President Vladimir Putin said that the prosecution of Safronov is not connected with his journalistic activities, but is connected "with a long period of his work both as an assistant or adviser to Rogozin, when he worked in the government, and in Roscosmos."
