Saint-Petersburg. June 5. INTERFAX-Humanity is not ready for flights to Mars in the near future, the corresponding plans are technically illiterate and absurd, said the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin.
"Often (space lovers-IF) become hostages of people's fantasies, which attract them not as ordinary people, but as potential investors in certain space projects. They are captivated by stories that humanity is about to fly to Mars soon. But people who are technically dedicated understand that this is completely absurd, " Rogozin said at a session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
"In order to fly to Mars, you need a launch window, this is every two years. And then this flight is up to nine months. How to cram a hundred people like sprats in a jar, without being able to move for nine months? Then they will wait there for the launch window, so that they can quickly get out of there and fly back to Earth like sprats in a tin can. And you know, people like it. I call this the "Wow" effect. In fact, there is nothing behind this, except the usual move of a marketer, " Rogozin said.
The head of Roscosmos did not specify who he meant, but noted that "there are quite a lot of such people."
Earlier it was reported that the American company SpaceX is testing the Starship. It is designed for flights to the Moon and Mars. In the manned version, the ship will be able to take on board up to 100 people.
In early December last year, the head of SpaceX, Elon Musk, said that his rocket will be able to land people on Mars in 2026.
