The S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft systems will be equipped with the latest interceptors. Their arsenal will include special ammunition that can destroy the warheads of enemy ballistic missiles.
The development of a system capable of hitting aircraft and hypersonic aircraft should be completed this year. Currently, it has been tested and confirmed its characteristics. "Prometheus" will complement the PRO not only of the capital region, but also of the whole of Russia.
Its mobility, combined with state-of-the-art ammunition, will help create an impenetrable shield in any part of the country where it is needed, experts said.
As sources in the military department told Izvestia, the latest anti-missile system for the S-500 is currently in a high state of readiness.
Successful tests of the munition were held at the Sary-Shagan test site in Kazakhstan. After a series of launches, he confirmed the inherent characteristics, and the combat crews successfully completed the task, hitting the conditional target with the specified accuracy. According to him, in addition to the "Prometheus", the same product will be used in the updated stationary missile defense system of Moscow.
The interceptor is designed to destroy enemy ballistic missiles, as well as falling warheads. From conventional anti-aircraft ammunition, such products are distinguished by a higher flight speed, as well as a sophisticated guidance system. The task of the anti-missile is to physically hit the target and destroy it. Only then will the warhead be destroyed.
