Russian Deputy Defense Minister Colonel-General Alexander Fomin spoke about the threats in the near future that the Russian military sees. According to him, the most serious security challenges and threats are caused by several recent trends in the world.
"First, today we are witnessing the formation of a new world order, we see a tendency to draw countries into the "new cold war", the division of states into "friends" and "strangers". At the same time," strangers" are clearly defined in the doctrinal documents as an enemy, " the deputy head of the military department said in an interview with RT.
Secondly, according to him, there is a systematic destruction of the existing system of international relations, the security architecture, at the same time, the role of international organizations as instruments of collective decision-making in the field of security is being belittled. "Instead of international law, which has defined the foundations of global and regional stability over the past few decades, an order is being imposed based on certain rules, proposed and supported by no one knows who, not spelled out anywhere and satisfied only those who, in fact, invented this very order," the military commander said.
The third threat, General Fomin continued, is the emergence of fundamentally new types of weapons that radically change the balance of power in the modern world. In parallel, the armed confrontation, according to the Deputy Defense Minister, penetrates into new and new areas - in space and cyberspace. And this, of course, leads to a change in the principles and methods of warfare.
The Defense Ministry noted that all these topics "to one degree or another" will be discussed at the upcoming Moscow Conference on International Security. The Forum will be held in the Russian capital on June 22-24.
