Missions will be sent in 2028-2030
MOSCOW, June 2. /TASS/. The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) intends to send two missions to study Venus. This is stated on Wednesday in a statement of the organization published on the official website.
"NASA has chosen two new missions to Venus - the Earth's closest neighbor-the planet. The purpose of the missions is to understand how Venus became a hell-like world when it has so many [physical] characteristics similar to those of our planet," the statement said.
It is specified that the missions will be sent in 2028-2030.
According to NASA, the mission, called DAVINCI+, will study the composition of the atmosphere of Venus to understand how it formed and developed, as well as to determine whether there was once an ocean on the planet. The purpose of the second mission, called VERITAS, will be to map the surface of Venus to study the geological history of the planet, as well as to determine the reasons why Venus developed in a different way from Earth. It is planned to allocate about $500 million for the preparation of each mission.
NASA's planned missions to Venus will be the first to explore the planet since 1978.
