The modernization of the Russian army is carried out exclusively for defensive purposes. This clarification was made on Sunday, May 30, by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yuri Borisov on the air of the program " Moscow. The Kremlin. Putin" on the channel "Russia 1".

"Our task is to ensure the guaranteed security of the country, we are not going to win someone over. And we need to do this effectively and make it clear to everyone who wants to encroach on our territories that it is a very dangerous occupation to come to us with such thoughts and intentions, " the deputy head of government said.

On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that, despite the pandemic, all planned activities in the Russian army last year were carried out in full. He said that this information was confirmed by checks that were carried out in all military districts and in the Northern Fleet.

Earlier, on May 20, Putin said that due to the prudent attitude to finance and the development of science, new airline complexes are appearing in the country, which have no analogues in the world, as well as combat surface and submarine ships. Today, the country manages to maintain the armed forces at the proper level, without "militarizing the budget," the head of state stressed.

On May 9, the Finnish Defense Ministry published a report on the work of the country's military intelligence, which states that Russia is preparing to use troops in Europe. The authors of the report also say that tensions in Europe are increasing due to the"return to power politics".

The West has repeatedly expressed concern about the statements of the Ukrainian military about the build-up of Russian military forces along the border with Ukraine. The parties discussed " aggressive military buildup along the Ukrainian borders and in the occupied Crimea." The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, in turn, said that the movement of Russian troops on the territory of the Russian Federation should not bother other states, since these actions do not threaten them in any way.
