Moscow. May 28. INTERFAX-The United States is missing chances to improve relations with Russia, the decision to withdraw from the Open Skies Treaty (DON) is another proof of this, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Interfax on Friday.
"We are once again convinced that the Americans continue to walk on their own rake. This is repeated from time to time, when they miss the chance to somehow change the standard of their own behavior in the dialogue with us and on issues important not only from the point of view of bilateral relations," he said, commenting on Washington's decision.
Russia's security after the actual collapse of the Open Skies Treaty (DON) will not suffer, Moscow will live without it, Ryabkov stressed.
"We will live without DON, we will survive his absence. Our security will not be affected. But politically, Americans are making one big mistake after another, " he said.
According to him, the only exception to this in recent years was the US decision to extend the Start Treaty.
"The rest is endless attempts to put Russia in a false light, to try to hold us responsible for certain security problems. And this is despite the fact that we have fully explained all the elements of the American claims against us, and not only with them, but with all their allies, " the Deputy minister stressed.
He recalled that Moscow offered a compromise: the United States announces its decision to return to the DON, Russia suspends internal procedures for withdrawing from the Treaty, and only then the parties would continue to jointly discuss mutual claims.
