The United States unreasonably seeks to question the territorial integrity of Russia. This was stated by the first Deputy director of the FSB of Russia - the head of the border service, Army General Vladimir Kulishov, noting that Washington does not recognize the motivated position of the Russian Federation regarding the status of Peter the Great Bay in the Primorsky Territory.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, the head of the border service explained that the state border in maritime spaces is determined by the external border of territorial waters, and the exclusive economic zone is an area located outside the territorial waters, and does not exceed 200 nautical miles. However, these rules do not apply to the so-called historical bays, which, according to the decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of July 4, 1957, also includes the Peter the Great Bay.
"The claims from America are unfounded from the point of view of international law," Kulishov said. He noted that the incident in the Gulf in November last year with the US Navy destroyer "John McCain" is a violation of the state border of the Russian Federation.
Recall, on November 24, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the large anti-submarine ship of the Pacific Fleet "Admiral Vinogradov" stopped the violation of the state border by the US Navy destroyer "John McCain" in Peter the Great Bay. It was noted that the alien ship behaved provocatively. "After receiving a warning and changing the course of the Admiral Vinogradov to the destroyer John McCain, the American ship immediately went into neutral waters. The American destroyer did not make repeated attempts to enter them, " the Russian military department reported.
