TSAMTO, May 27. According to the MBDA group, the UK Ministry of Defense has signed a contract for the purchase of Sea Ceptor air defense systems, which will provide air defense for the new Type-31 class frigates of the country's Navy.
"Sea Septor" is a modern ship-based air defense system of the near line of defense. As a means of destruction, the complex uses a unified modular anti-aircraft guided missile CAMM (Common Anti-air Modular Missile).
It is assumed that the Sea Septor air defense systems will provide protection against air attack means, including high-speed maneuvering missiles and attack aircraft, as well as attack boats, not only the frigate on which they are installed, but also other ships (including the new Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers) during joint operations.
The signed contract provides for the integration of the Sea Septor air defense system with the systems of the Type-31 frigates, as well as the supply and installation of equipment on board. The signed contract is part of the Portfolio Management Agreement (PMA), signed in 2010 by the UK Ministry of Defence and MBDA for the development and production of national weapons systems. The PMA agreement allowed the UK Armed Forces to receive modern military equipment, provided more than 4,000 jobs at MBDA UK enterprises, while saving more than 1.2 billion pounds.
Currently, the Sea Septor air defense systems have been adopted by the Type-23 class frigates of the British Navy. The UK Ministry of Defence is acquiring CAMM missiles for both the Navy and the SV.
