Moscow. May 26. INTERFAX-The calculations of the Iskander operational-tactical missile systems (OTRK) from the combined-arms army of the Western Military District have completed the transfer of equipment to the summer operation mode and have taken up combat duty in the Kursk region.
"As a test of combat readiness, the servicemen worked out marches to the designated positional areas, where they carried out engineering equipment of the starting positions and took up combat duty in the area of responsibility," the ZVO said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
According to the ZVO headquarters, "during combat duty, the Iskander OTRK crews conducted electronic missile launches, working out the application of group and single strikes on important objects and targets that determine the combat potential of the conditional enemy."
The Iskander-M OTRK was developed in the Kolomna Machine-building Design Bureau (High-Precision Complexes Holding). In the version for the Russian army, the complex includes two types of missiles: ballistic and cruise.
The range of the Iskander-M missiles was officially called - up to 500 km. It was reported that the missiles of the complex can carry a nuclear warhead. The complex is in service with the missile brigades of the Russian Ground Forces. "Iskander-M" replaced the operational and tactical complex "Tochka-U".
