KIEV, May 25. /TASS/. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted a major anti-terrorist exercise in the Odessa region in the Black Sea. This was announced on Tuesday by the special service on Facebook.

"The SBU conducted large-scale anti-terrorist exercises in the Black Sea, the purpose of which is to improve interdepartmental cooperation in conducting anti - terrorist operations at high-risk facilities and transport infrastructure," the ministry said.

According to the legend of the exercises, several "sabotage groups" tried to carry out terrorist attacks on the territory of the Odessa port plant and the Yuzhny seaport. Another group of armed "terrorists" seized a cargo ship with "hostages" - its crew - and also made demands.

The anti-terrorist operation on the vessel captured by the terrorists took place in several stages: after the negotiations were completed, the active phase began. The assault teams of the special forces "Alpha" landed on board, neutralized the criminals and released the hostages. The actions of the special forces were also successful against other conditional terrorists.

The exercise was attended by units of the SBU, the State Border Service, the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Maritime Search and Rescue Service, the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine and the Odessa Port Plant, as well as representatives of local authorities.

Recently, Kiev has stepped up training anti-terrorist maneuvers. In the second half of April, the SBU reported that its units in all regions of Ukraine were placed on high alert. In this regard, large-scale anti-terrorist exercises were held in most regions. Then the secret service explained this "by the escalation of the armed confrontation with the Russian Federation and the increase in aggressive rhetoric on the part of Russia." Maneuvers were also held on the border with the Russian Federation.

On Tuesday, the SBU also announced that the next scheduled exercises will be held on May 26-27 at the Dnipro HPP dam.
