London. May 24. INTERFAX-An American B-52H Stratofortress strategic bomber capable of carrying nuclear weapons flew to the Black Sea region on Monday, according to data from Western aviation resources that tracked it by signals from an onboard transponder.
According to them, the plane with the tail number 60-0013, which took off from the Moron air base in Spain, flew over the Mediterranean Sea, northern Italy, the Adriatic, Croatia, Hungary and Romania before reaching the Black Sea near the southern borders of the Odessa region of Ukraine.
In the area of the Bulgarian port of Burgas, the bomber, after circling for some time over the sea, went on a reverse course.
During the flight over the western part of the Black Sea, the plane was no closer than about 270-320 km from the borders of Russia.
At the same time, it is possible that two aircraft were involved in the flight, one of which had its transponder disabled.
According to the US Air Force Europe Command, on May 18, a B-52H Stratofortress operational bomber group from the 2nd Bombardment Wing arrived at Moron Air Base in southwestern Spain from Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana.
As reported by the US military, on May 19, a pair of B-52H flew to the Baltic region. In particular, the planes flew over the international waters of the Baltic Sea and the capitals of Lithuania, Vilnius and Latvia, Riga. Over the Baltic, they were accompanied by fighters of the Danish and Polish Air Forces.
