MOSCOW, May 23/ Radio Sputnik. The European Commission plans to allocate 2.7 million euros to support the Belarusian state bodies controlling the Belarusian NPP, writes RT with reference to the relevant tender.
Additional external funding, according to the representatives of the European Commission, should improve the supervision and regulatory control over radiation and nuclear safety at the BelNPP at the early stages of its operation.
The project provides Belarus ' Gosatomnadzor with greater opportunities to conduct its own independent inspections and approve measures to improve safety at the new nuclear power plant.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is the largest Russian-Belarusian economic project, the general contractor for its construction is Atomstroyexport (part of Rosatom).
The plant with two VVER-1200 reactors with a total installed electric capacity of 2,400 MW is located in Ostrovets (Grodno region). The official ceremony dedicated to the beginning of the work of block No. 1 took place on November 7 last year.
Belarus ' neighboring states have repeatedly expressed concern about the launch of the facility. So, in November 2020, immediately after the first launch, Vilnius sent a note to Minsk, in which it called for stopping the operation of the nuclear power plant, allegedly due to"non-compliance with safety standards".
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that Lithuania was talking about a "threat to all EU citizens" because of the Belarusian NPP.
