Specialists of the corporation cooperate on the development of a hybrid engine with specialists of the Central Institute of Aviation Engine Building, the United Engine Corporation reported
MOSCOW, May 19. /TASS/. The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) plans to produce a hybrid powertrain technology demonstrator by 2023. This was stated on Wednesday by the chief designer of the UEC Yuri Shmotin.
"Today in the UEC we have formed a team, hybrid power plants are defined as a direction. Specific deadlines for the implementation of research work have been set. <...> We plan to get the first results within two years. It will be a demonstrator of hybrid powertrain technologies, " he said.
Shmotin also noted that by this time, the requirements for the components of the hybrid power plant will be formed "in order to form a hybrid power plant in the period of plus four years, which in its characteristics will not be inferior to a gas turbine engine." The prospective engine will also have significant advantages in terms of specific fuel consumption and environmental impact in terms of emissions of harmful substances.
According to the UEC general designer, the corporation's specialists closely cooperate on the development of a hybrid engine with the specialists of the Central Institute of Aircraft Engine Engineering.
Earlier it was reported that the United Engine Corporation intends to invest up to half a billion rubles in research work on the development of a hybrid power plant for aircraft. In the future, it can be used on light drones, multi-purpose helicopters.
