The SBIRS GEO 5 satellite was launched into orbit by an Atlas V launch vehicle
NEW YORK, May 18. /TASS/. The US Space Force sent the SBIRS GEO 5 early detection system satellite into orbit on Tuesday using an Atlas V launch vehicle. The launch was broadcast on the website of the creators of the launch vehicle - the United Launch Alliance company.
The launch took place at 13:37 East Coast time (20:37 Moscow time) from the Cape Canaveral space center (Florida).
The SBIRS GEO 5 satellite is part of the US missile warning system. It includes two echelons - ground (a network of radar stations) and space (a network of satellites with infrared equipment). The space echelon of the American warning system similarly includes groupings of vehicles in geostationary and highly elliptical orbits.
