TSAMTO, May 17. The latest Buk-M3 air defense systems, which entered service with the anti-aircraft missile unit in the Altai Territory, made it possible to increase the combat capabilities of the unit by more than 5 times without increasing the staff and official composition of the military personnel.

The Buk-M3 medium-range anti-aircraft missile systems first went on combat duty to protect the airspace in the area of responsibility on the territory of the Central Military District (CVO) in December 2020. The ceremony of taking up combat duty was timed to coincide with the 105th anniversary of the formation of the first organized air defense system of Russia.

"The fire capabilities of the brigade have increased so significantly due to the increased number of target channels, and the maximum range of hitting air targets has more than doubled, and this, in turn, allows you to more effectively cover your command post, formations and military units of the combined arms association from the enemy's air attack, its high – precision weapons, as well as protect the military and industrial infrastructure of several Siberian regions," said Lieutenant General Sergei Ryzhkov, commander of the combined arms association of the Central Military District.

The Buk-M3 medium-range anti-aircraft missile system is designed to destroy all types of aircraft in all ranges of their practical use, fire at radio-contrast ground targets and defeat surface targets in conditions of intense fire and electronic counteraction. The Buk-M3 complex surpassed the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system in a number of parameters, including the probability of hitting targets, and its range reaches 70 km, which is 25 km higher than the parameters of previous modifications of the Buk air defense system. The maximum firing height is 35 km. In addition, it can destroy ballistic missiles with a launch range of up to 150-200 km, the press service of the Central Military District reports.
