The forces of the Russian Black Sea Fleet began tracking the actions of the British patrol ship "Trent", which entered the Black Sea. This was reported on Sunday, May 16, by the Russian Defense Ministry.
"The forces and means of the Black Sea Fleet have started tracking the actions of the patrol ship Trent of the British Navy," the ministry said.
On April 18, the British edition of The Times, citing sources in the military department, told about Britain's plans to send two ships of the country's Navy to the Black Sea in May. It was reported that we are talking about a destroyer armed with anti-aircraft missiles, and an anti-submarine frigate.
According to the plan, the two ships will separate from the Royal Navy's carrier strike group in the Mediterranean Sea and head to the Black Sea via the Bosphorus Strait.
As the source of the publication specified, in this way the UK will show its support to Ukraine against the background of tension on the Russian-Ukrainian border.
As specified by the director of the Institute of CIS Countries in Sevastopol, captain of the first rank of the reserve Sergei Gorbachev, this event can be called planned. He suggested that the arrival of NATO ships may provoke anti-Russian rhetoric in Ukraine, but, in his opinion, this will not be a real aggravation of the situation.
