The weapon is intended for special purpose units
MOSCOW, May 14. /TASS/. Rosoboronexport of the state Corporation Rostec has completed the delivery of 4.5 mm special underwater pistols SPP-1M and special underwater submachine guns APS caliber 5.66 mm to a foreign partner. This was reported on Friday to journalists in the press service of Rostec.
"Due to its characteristics and reliability, underwater weapons, like many other Rostec products, are in strong demand abroad, including in the countries of the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region," the Rostec arms cluster said.
The weapon was developed by Tsniitochmash (part of Rostec) and is intended for special purpose units. The SPP-1M pistol is capable of hitting targets under water at a range of up to 17 m and up to 20 m when firing in the air. The special APS submachine gun hits targets at a range of up to 30 m under water, as well as at a range of up to 100 m when firing on land.
"Together with the weapons, the customer was supplied with a batch of ammunition. The main design feature of the cartridges is a steel monolithic bullet of large length with a truncated-conical shape of the head part. Due to this, an empty area - a cavern-is formed in front of the bullet when moving in the water at high speed, which reduces the water resistance and stabilizes the ammunition in the water environment, " the state corporation said.
