During the latest tests, the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), called the "killer" of Russian air defense systems (for example, the S-400 "Triumph"), flew more than 400 kilometers, breaking its own range record, the Defense News publication reports, citing Lockheed Martin.
The relevant tests were conducted at the White Sands test site in New Mexico. According to Lockheed Martin, the tests confirmed the claimed characteristics of the weapon, in particular the range and accuracy, as well as the possibility of integrating the missile with the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) launcher.
Defense News recalls that in 2020, the PrSM missile flew at a range of 240, 180 and 85 kilometers.
In April, Breaking Defense reported that the US army is studying the possibility of increasing the range of PrSM missiles to 1,600 kilometers.
The PrSM is expected to enter service with the US Army in 2023.
According to Defense News, currently the claimed maximum range of the PrSM is 499 kilometers, but this figure can be increased to 550 kilometers, since the United States and Russia are not bound by the obligations under the Treaty on Short-and Medium-Range Missiles (DRMSD).
