Rostov-on-Don. May 12. INTERFAX-YUG - The new S-350 Vityaz medium-range anti-aircraft missile system has entered service in the Southern Military District, the commander of the district's troops, Alexander Dvornikov, said in an interview with the Military Bulletin of the South of Russia.
"This year, the S-350 Vityaz advanced medium-range anti-aircraft missile system was put into service. According to its characteristics, it is designed to fight both aerodynamic and ballistic targets. One of the anti-aircraft missile regiments of the district has already begun to rearm with this new model, " Dvornikov said.
As the press service of the Southern Military District clarified to Interfax, the S-350 entered service with the military personnel of the Krasnodar Territory.
"Currently, the anti-aircraft missile forces of the Southern Military District are 90% equipped with samples of the new fleet, and radio engineering units - 76%. The basis of our means of combating air targets are the S-400 "Triumph" and the ZRPK "Pantsir-S", " Dvornikov added.
Dvornikov said in March that a new generation of S-500 long-range anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as new S-350 medium-range air defense systems, could be deployed in Crimea and other regions of southern Russia.
The S-350 Vityaz (Almaz-Antey Concern) is a mobile multi-channel medium-range air defense system. It is designed to protect state, industrial, military facilities and groups of troops from the attacks of modern and advanced means of air attack. The system is capable of destroying air targets at ranges of more than 120 km and at altitudes of more than 30 km. The time to bring the complex into combat readiness from the march does not exceed 5 minutes.
