For the Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system, the first high-precision guided missile of 300 mm caliber with a homing head is being created.
- The GOS will be combined: with television and thermal imaging channels, - the rocket will also be able to use a semi-active laser system to aim at the target,-a source in the military-industrial complex told RIA Novosti. He noted that this is the first time that a munition for MLRS will receive a homing head. A number of rockets for jet systems are equipped with inertial satellite navigation, but they do not have a GOS on them.
In the near future, bench tests of the guidance system of the new rocket will begin. According to the technical task, the munition must hit important small-sized and highly protected targets with high accuracy: command posts, communication centers and other long-term buildings. Also, the product will be able to destroy low-contrast and limited moving objects, regardless of weather conditions and time of day.
The Tornado MLRS was created to replace the Soviet Grad and Smerch rocket systems. The new complex is available in two calibers: 122-mm "Tornado-G" and 300-mm "Tornado-S", has a more advanced control system and uses a number of new ammunition. For example, "Tornado-C" can shoot a drone to scout targets and adjust the fire.
