The head of the State Border Service of Ukraine (SBSU), Serhiy Deineko, said that in recent years, 400 km of an anti-tank ditch was dug on the border with Russia, 100 km of metal fence was installed and 70 km of barbed wire was stretched.
The general stated that the construction of the border with Russia continues, although it is no longer happening within the framework of the "Wall" project, which is associated with the first post-Maidan Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Eadaily reports.
"There is no Wall project. This name has remained in common use. Unfortunately, in our society, the "Wall" project is associated only with negative manifestations, " the head of the State Civil Service complained.
According to him, the completion of the arrangement of the border with Russia depends only on Ukraine and what society wants to see on the border. At the same time, he admitted that no border structures will really save him from "Russian aggression".
And immediately made the opposite statement that the construction of the border "wall" should continue to ensure 100% control over the border line.
In 2014, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk proposed to build a "European wall" on the border with Russia. The project was immediately given the nickname "Yatsenyuk's Wall" and later its implementation was suspended several times due to funding problems.
Initially, the project was supposed to cost the budget of 4 billion UAH. The "Wall" was planned to be completed in 2018, then the deadline was pushed back to 2021. Later, due to insufficient funding, the deadline was postponed to 2025. We have already spent UAH 1.7 billion on construction, allocating 400-500 million annually.
