Russia begins deployment of the Glonass-K2 NKA group»

The first navigation spacecraft of the new generation, Glonass-K2, will be launched into orbit at the end of 2021. This is reported by TASS with reference to the general director of the company "Information Satellite Systems named after M. F. Reshetnev" Nikolai Testoedov.

This year, one Glonass-K2 device will be launched. We plan this for the fourth quarter, " he said.

Testoyedov said that the delivery of on-board equipment has already been completed, now the device is assembled and is undergoing tests: mechanical thermal vacuum and others.

In October last year, the general designer of the GLONASS system, Sergey Karutin, reported that the new Glonass-K2 spacecraft will provide navigation accuracy of less than 30 cm.

As Alexey Muravyov, chief of staff of the chief designer of consumer navigation equipment, commented to the journal "Vestnik GLONASS", the launch of the first satellite" Glonass-K2 " at the end of the year will only be the beginning of the path to achieving the declared accuracy in navigation.

First of all, the new frequencies will solve the problems of achieving high accuracy. But the number of new vehicles in orbit is also important. One "Glonass-K2", of course, will not solve this problem. And, for example, four new satellites will still not allow you to achieve such accuracy. Taking into account that for some time GLONASS will have a combined orbital grouping consisting of new and old satellites, K2 devices, indeed, there should be a certain number so that we can talk about the work on the new grouping, " he said.

The new-generation Glonass-K2 satellites are distinguished from the previous - generation satellites by a large number of radiated navigation signals (five signals from Glonass-M, seven and nine signals from Glonass-K and Glonass-K2) and a long service life (seven years from Glonass - M, 10 years from Glonass-K and Glonass-K2).
