MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. A MiG-31 fighter jet flew to escort a US strategic reconnaissance aircraft over the Pacific Ocean, and no violations of the Russian state border were allowed. This was reported to journalists on Friday in the information support department of the Pacific Fleet of the press service of the Eastern Military District.
According to the fleet, the Russian means of controlling the airspace over the neutral waters of the Pacific Ocean detected an air target approaching the state border of the Russian Federation.
"To identify the air target and prevent violations of the state border of the Russian Federation, a MiG-31 fighter from the air defense forces of the Eastern Military District on duty was lifted into the air. The crew of the Russian fighter identified the air target as a US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and escorted it over the Pacific Ocean...> Violations of the state border of the Russian Federation are not allowed, " the press service of the fleet said.
They said that after the turn of a foreign military aircraft from the border of the Russian Federation, the Russian fighter safely returned to the home airfield.
"The flight of the Russian fighter jet was carried out in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace," the press service stressed.
