The extension of the operation of the International Space Station (ISS) beyond 2024 will depend on a joint decision of the ISS partners. This was reported on Thursday, April 22, in the press service of the European Space Agency (ESA).
"The ISS partners have an agreement that the extension of the ISS after 2024 will depend on a joint decision. Part of such a solution may be a joint technical assessment of its working condition. At the moment, Roscosmos has not notified ESA of any changes in these agreements, "the European agency told RIA Novosti.
On the eve of the head of the state corporation "Roscosmos" Dmitry Rogozin said that Russia is considering the possibility of transferring its segment of the ISS to the United States after 2025. He stressed that the station itself is unified, but the energy supply to the ISS is largely supported by the American segment, and the issues of orbit adjustment are related to the capabilities of Russian cargo ships.
On the same day, Rogozin said that the science and energy module (NEM), which was created for the ISS, will be redesigned for use on the new Russian space station.
On April 20, Rogozin announced that the launch of the first base module for the new Russian space station should be provided in 2025.
On April 18, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov announced Moscow's plans to withdraw from the International Space Station (ISS) project from 2025 and start creating its own space station.
The ISS was put into orbit in 1998. In 2000, the first cosmonauts settled on the station. The station will expire in 2024. In November 2020, it became known about plans to extend its operation until 2030.
