TSAMTO, April 22. The United States has sent an official notification to Turkey about its exclusion from the program of production of the latest F-35 fighter jets due to Ankara's purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems.
This, as reported by "RIA Novosti", was reported by the Anadolu agency, citing a source in the Pentagon.
It is noted that the United States canceled the joint memorandum on the production of the F-35, signed by Turkey in January 2007, signing it with the seven remaining partners in the F-35 project-Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Denmark, Canada and Norway.
Earlier, Turkey committed to purchase 100 F-35 aircraft. She was also involved in the production of more than 1,000 components for them. As the Minister of Industry and Technology of the republic Mustafa Varank told RIA Novosti earlier, Turkey continues to produce these components, despite the fact that the United States excluded it from this project.
As the agency reminds, deliveries of the latest Russian S-400 air defense systems, which caused a crisis in Turkey's relations with the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and instead purchase American Patriot systems, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of the latest F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions in accordance with CAATSA (the law "On Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions"). Ankara refused to make concessions and continued negotiations on an additional batch of S-400s.
