Moscow rejects Washington's accusations of non-compliance with Russia's moratorium on nuclear tests
Moscow. April 21. INTERFAX-The United States groundlessly accuses Russia of non-compliance with the moratorium on nuclear tests, while they themselves are silent about their plans to deploy new nuclear weapons, the Russian Foreign Ministry says.
"Nothing but bewilderment can cause passages from the report on the alleged "strict implementation" of the START Treaty by Washington, absolutely baseless accusations of Russia's non-compliance with the moratorium on nuclear tests," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a comment in connection with the report published by the US State Department "On compliance and implementation of agreements and obligations in the field of arms control, non - proliferation and disarmament."
Zakharova notes that "at the same time, the tectonic shifts in the field of European security caused by the approach of NATO's military-strategic infrastructure to Russian borders, as well as the US 'own plans to deploy new nuclear weapons contrary to the mentioned"presidential initiatives" are ignored.
The Russian Foreign Ministry says that the "approach" to the problem of non-strategic nuclear weapons (NSNW) looks "very cynical". "A serious analysis of the situation in this area is being unfairly replaced by attempts to incriminate Russia, which consistently keeps all NSNWs intact on its national territory, in moving away from the voluntary "presidential initiatives" of 1991-92, " the commentary says, the text of which is posted on the Foreign Ministry's website.
