Washington will hand over to Vilnius the M72 LAW single-use hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers, which were adopted by the US Army in 1962. On Monday, April 12, writes Sputnik Lithuania with reference to the Ministry of Defense of the Baltic Republic.
"The arms transfer ceremony will take place on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas battalion in Vilnius. The cost of the weapon was $10 million. It will be distributed among the units of the Volunteer Forces of the Lithuanian Army. It is reported that the US military has already familiarized the instructors of the Volunteer Forces with the use of these grenade launchers," the agency said.
According to Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anushauskas, the M72 LAW grenade launchers "will make a significant contribution to increasing deterrence", as well as to"strengthening the security of the Baltic region".
According to Sputnik, the M72 LAW was adopted by the US Army in 1962 as an individual anti-tank weapon. Grenade launchers have been tested in the operations of the United States and its allies in Iraq, Afghanistan and other conflicts.
Now in the United States, instead of grenade launchers of this series, newer and more effective weapons are mainly used.
In March, it became known that the United States intends to supply Germany with five P-8A patrol aircraft and related equipment for a total of $ 1.77 billion. In August 2020, it became known that Ukraine has begun to modernize the Island patrol boats, decommissioned in the United States and transferred to Kiev in 2018.
