The commander of the air and missile defense forces - Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the VKS, Lieutenant General Yuri Grekhov, spoke about the S-350 Vityaz medium-range anti-aircraft missile system and the Container radar. The S-350 is deployed at the anti-aircraft missile Forces training center in Gatchina.
The Lieutenant General told about the features of the new weapons on the eve of the Day of the Air Defense Forces in an interview with the newspaper "Red Star". He noted that the S-350 "Vityaz" proved itself from the best side even during state tests.
It destroys all targets that simulate an aerial enemy - anti-radar, ballistic and cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, jammers, and guided bombs-with a minimum expenditure of missiles. And the presence of an increased ammunition supply of new-generation anti-aircraft guided missiles can significantly increase the fire performance. The delivery of the S-350 Vityaz to the military units of the VKS and the Navy is provided for by the State Armament Program.
Yuri Grekhov also reported on the Container over-the-horizon radar station. Since 2019, she has been on combat duty in Mordovia. The radar monitors the air situation on the territory of more than two thousand kilometers from the state border of the Russian Federation, detects and warns about the preparation and beginning of an air attack.
The special feature of the "Container" is the use of an unusual range of wavelengths for radar, which, under certain conditions, allows you to "look" over the horizon and detect almost all types of air objects, including those built with the use of stealth technology. As the commander of the air defense forces added, this radar is not the only one of its kind. With the commissioning of several more, a system for over-the-horizon detection and control of the air situation at a great distance from the eastern, southern and western borders of Russia will be created.
