TSAMTO, April 6. On April 4, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced the arrival of the first Oron reconnaissance aircraft at the Nevatim air base.
The equipment for the platform was created by the Department of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D) of the Israeli Ministry of Defense in cooperation with the Israeli Air Force, the Intelligence Directorate and the Israeli Navy.
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) was selected as the general contractor for the development project. The equipment for the aircraft was developed taking into account the experience gained by the Israeli Defense Ministry and the Israeli Armed Forces during the conflicts. It will be equipped with information processing algorithms based on advanced data processing techniques and artificial intelligence technologies. The aircraft will allow the Israeli Armed Forces to maintain their superiority in intelligence in the face of emerging threats. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will create an effective automated data processing system that will generate operational information in real time, increasing the effectiveness of the Israeli Armed Forces during combat operations.
"Oron" is based on the Gulfstream G550 platform, which is characterized by high flight performance and low operating costs. The aircraft will be equipped with the latest sensors, including a radar made by IAI.
The installed systems will allow the IDF to receive a large amount of intelligence in real time in difficult weather conditions, at any visibility in peacetime and during conflicts.
The aircraft will be part of the 122nd reconnaissance squadron "Nakhshon". Currently, this unit includes AWACS G-550 "Eitam" and electronic reconnaissance aircraft G-500 "Shavit", which are also used for reconnaissance purposes.
