Rolls-Royce UltraFan engine
Rolls-Royce specialists have started to develop a new UltraFan turboprop aircraft engine, which, thanks to its unique efficiency, will have a working life of 25% higher than the capabilities of previous models. According to the developers, this will create a technological revolution in the field of passenger and cargo air transportation around the world.
It is expected that the first prototype will be ready by the end of this year. The UltraFan is a gas turbine turboprop engine with 3.35 m diameter propellers. The design of the new unit is unique. In the future, it should replace the iconic line of Rolls-Royce Trent engines, which have been in operation for more than 30 years.
Rolls-Royce UltraFan
As you know, Rolls-Royce has made a commitment to reduce greenhouse emissions from its products to zero by 2030, so UltraFan will run on gas. It combines impressive dimensions with an ultra-technological filling and an ALECSys combustion system. However, for all its huge size, the engine will lighten the weight of the aircraft by 680 kg thanks to ultra-modern materials and thoughtful design. It will use ceramic matrix composite parts and titanium carbide blades, combining unique strength and low weight. The developers have provided UltraFan with advanced software and a variety of sensors. For example, each blade has a digital twin that stores all the information about the tests performed, which allows engineers to very accurately predict the performance of the engine during operation.
