Moscow. April 5. The military personnel of the missile brigade of the Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District (ZVO) worked out the destruction of strategic objects of the imaginary enemy in the Leningrad region.
"Training launches of missiles from the Iskander-M operational and tactical missile systems (OTRK) were carried out on strategic targets of a simulated enemy within the framework of special exercises," the press service of the ZVO said in a statement issued on Monday.
Having received the coordinates of the targets, the Iskander-M calculations "performed electronic launches of cruise missiles at command posts, communication centers and other important objects of the imaginary enemy located at a distance of up to five hundred kilometers," the ZVO headquarters informs.
According to him, about 100 servicemen and more than 20 weapons were involved in the exercises.
"Iskander-M" (developed by the "Design Bureau of Mechanical Engineering", part of the holding " NPO "High-precision Complexes") is capable of hitting targets with two types of missiles: ballistic and cruise. The complex is designed to destroy enemy multiple launch rocket systems, anti-missile and air defense systems, aircraft and helicopters at airfields, command posts and infrastructure facilities.
According to official data, the range of the Iskander-M OTRK missiles is up to 500 km. The missiles of the complex can carry a nuclear warhead.
