The special purpose regiment of the Southern Military District in the Stavropol Territory was one of the first to receive a batch of 300 new Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifles, said the head of the press service of the Southern Military District, Colonel Vadim Astafyev. The AK-12 differs from the AK-74 submachine guns currently in service by its increased accuracy of fire and barrel survivability. Improved ergonomics of the weapon increased the ease of use.
The weight of the machine gun is 3.5 kg, the range of a direct shot is 440 m. The rate of fire of the weapon is 650 rounds per minute. The submachine gun can fire in three modes: turn, cut-off for two shots and single shots.
In addition, for the first time, Picatinny rails for attaching auxiliary equipment are installed on the newest machine. Also, a new magazine has been developed for the AK-12, which can be used as a stop for shooting.
The Kalashnikov AK-12 5.45 mm automatic rifle was developed by the Kalashnikov Concern as part of the Ratnik program. At the end of 2018, it was put into service.
