Moscow. March 29. INTERFAX-AVN-More than 12 thousand military personnel are involved in the exercises, which will work out the use of groups of troops to ensure military security in the east of Russia, the Eastern Military District (VVO) said on Monday.
The maneuvers are conducted under the leadership of the commander of the Air Defense Forces Gennady Zhidko.
"The commanders of combined-arms armies stationed in the Trans-Baikal and Amur regions will demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the use of groups of troops to ensure military security in the east of Russia," the press service of the district reported.
"Several practical stages have been planned at several training grounds in the Trans-Baikal Territory to practice the actions of the troops in defense and offensive, including at night," the report says.
According to the military, more than 12 thousand people, up to 3 thousand units of weapons and military equipment, about 60 aircraft and helicopters, more than ten unmanned aerial vehicles are taking part in the exercise.
The maneuvers will last until the end of this week, the VVO reported.
"This event is the final stage of operational, mobilization and combat training of the troops of the military district in the winter training period," the report says.
