BLAGOVESHCHENSK, March 25. /TASS/. At least six launches from the Vostochny cosmodrome are planned to be made in 2021. When new orders appear, this number can be increased, Dmitry Rogozin, General Director of the state corporation Roscosmos, told reporters on Thursday.
"How many [launches] will there be on Vostochny? Let's just say, according to our calculations, at least six. I can't say the exact number, maybe more. Due to the fact that commercial customers are increasing the production of devices, additional applications may appear, " he said.
On Thursday, a Soyuz-2.1 b launch vehicle with a Fregat upper stage and 36 new OneWeb spacecraft on board was launched from the Vostochny cosmodrome.
The Amur Region received the status of a space station in 2016, when a successful launch of the Soyuz-2.1 b carrier rocket took place from the Vostochny cosmodrome on April 28, which put three artificial earth satellites into orbit. In total, the infrastructure of the Vostochny cosmodrome has successfully completed seven launches of the Soyuz launch vehicle.
The Vostochny Cosmodrome is the first Russian civil spaceport, which aims to provide Russia with full access to outer space and reduce its dependence on Baikonur, located in Kazakhstan.
