The head of Roscosmos stressed that he counts on the support of the federal government
VOSTOCHNY COSMODROME, March 24. /TASS/. The final decision on the mechanism for the construction of the third stage of the Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region should be made in April this year, Dmitry Rogozin, head of the state corporation Roscosmos, told reporters on Wednesday during a trip to the Amur Region.
"The fact is that we are at a fork in the road, the decision on which has not yet been made. I hope [the decision on the construction of the third stage] will be made in the coming weeks. Naturally, such decisions are made by the head of state, who will be informed of the views and views of the general designers, leading our engineers on what is possible in option "A", in option "B", in option "C". These are different combinations of forces and means of space systems to ensure the main task, " Rogozin said.
He stressed that he is counting on the support of the federal government. "Let's wait, count how many there are, two and a half weeks, and we will have a certain decision with you, which will be guided by Roscosmos, and the government, I hope, will support us," Rogozin said after a working trip to the Vostochny cosmodrome by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin. "Marat Shakirzyanovich is aware of what is necessary and what will be required in the event of the adoption of this or that action plan to create a strategic class transport system," he added.
Earlier, Dmitry Rogozin said that the Vostochny cosmodrome will always develop, since each rocket requires its own launch complex.
The first stage of the Vostochny cosmodrome includes a launch complex for medium-sized rockets of the Soyuz-2 series, as well as a technical complex for carriers of this type. Six launches have already been carried out using the infrastructure built in the volume of the launch minimum.
The second stage of the construction of the cosmodrome involves the construction of a launch pad for Angara-A5 launch vehicles and related infrastructure. The excavation of the pit for the launch complex began in June 2019. It is expected that the construction of the second stage will be completed at the end of 2022. The first launch of the Angara is scheduled for 2023.
