Moscow. March 23. INTERFAX-The calculations of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) conducted an air defense training in the Arctic region, the press service of the Northern Fleet (SF) reported on Tuesday.
"Combat crews of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from the Army Air Force and air defense units of the Northern Fleet took part in the drawing of a tactical episode of exercises for the protection and defense of the airspace of the Russian Arctic," the report says.
According to the fleet, during the practical part of the exercise, the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems under the cover of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile and gun systems (ZRPC) marched to a given area, where they worked out the tasks of arranging positions on unprepared terrain.
"The servicemen performed a number of tasks to detect, capture, and accompany the means of air attack of a simulated enemy in difficult ground and air conditions," the SF reported.
It is noted that the security and combat stability of the S-400 air defense systems, the calculations of the Pantsir-S air defense system, took control of the airspace in the area of the positions and worked out practical actions for the air defense of the protected area in the near zone of responsibility of the group of air defense forces and means.
In recent years, Russia has significantly strengthened its military grouping in the Arctic zone. In particular, new short-range air defense systems "Tor-M2DT" and "Pantsir-S", coastal anti-ship systems "Bal" and "Bastion"have been deployed in the Arctic.
In 2019, the S-400 long-range air defense systems (developed and manufactured by JSC "Concern of East Kazakhstan Region "Almaz-Antey") were put on combat duty in the Novaya Zemlya archipelago. Also, the S-400 re-equipped the anti-aircraft missile regiment of the Northern Fleet on Yuzhny Island, which was previously armed with S-300 air defense systems.
