TSAMTO, March 22. The US Ambassador to Ankara, David Satterfield, warned Turkey against purchasing a second regimental set of S-400 air defense systems, RIA Novosti reports.
"The acquisition of the S-400 launched the CAATSA sanctions process. The purchase of new S-400 systems will lead to serious consequences and will cause more effective steps. We need to be able to say: "Turkey does not have the S-400 on its hands," he said.Satterfield on March 19 at a meeting with Turkish journalists. His words are quoted by NTV.
As RIA Novosti reminds, deliveries of the latest Russian S-400 air defense systems, which caused a crisis in Turkey's relations with the United States, began in mid-July 2019. Washington demanded to abandon the deal and instead purchase American Patriot systems, threatening to delay or even cancel the sale of the latest F-35 fighter jets to Turkey, as well as impose sanctions in accordance with CAATSA (the law "On Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions"). Ankara refused to make concessions and continued negotiations on an additional batch of complexes.
