Iran is equipping new underground ballistic missile launch silos after it revealed footage from a secret missile site earlier this week.
This is evidenced by satellite images published by Maxar Technologies, the American TV channel Fox News reports.
The images show four deep pits dug into the mountainside. According to a separate analysis conducted by the civilian intelligence group Intel Lab, three of them are vertical launch positions for launching missiles "in the final stage of construction."
"Given the geographical location, as well as the existing topography, when this complex is fully operational, it will not be easy to neutralize it with conventional (shock) means," said Itai Bar — Lev, chief analyst at Intel Lab.
Construction of the ballistic missile site, located in southwestern Iran, began three years ago, although only in recent months the Iranians have stepped up work on the launch sites, each of which can quickly deploy two ballistic missiles, Fox News notes.
Eadaily notes that the Iranian facility is located about 500 miles (800 km) from Kuwait, a country where more than 13,000 US troops are stationed, and less than 200 miles (320 km) from the United Arab Emirates, one of the key US military partners in the region, the TV channel adds.
