Missile weapons of the US Army can not replace the corresponding arsenal of the Air Force (Air Force) of the country, writes in a column for the American magazine Aviation Week & Space Technology, Lieutenant General of the Air Force of the country (retired) David Deptula.
According to the military, during the operation "Desert Storm", about 40 thousand sighting points were planned for the strike. "In a major regional conflict with China, Russia or one of their surrogates, this number may exceed 100 thousand," the lieutenant general said.
Deptula believes that, in particular, the US army and Air Force should avoid creating duplicate weapons systems. The military described the weapons being developed by the army as excessively expensive and requiring extensive logistical support.
"The next few years will require difficult choices in the defense budget. The final dollars should be spent on programs that optimize the combat capabilities and capabilities of all services, not just one, " the Lieutenant General concluded.
In March, the American magazine Popular Mechanics wrote that the helicopter being developed as part of the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) project for the US Army will receive a 20-millimeter gun capable of "killing" lightly armored systems, in particular, the Russian-made Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and gun system (ZRPC).
