Israeli mines will fly at the behest. Yesterday, March 14, the Associated Press news agency reported that the IDF has completed acceptance tests of "smart" Iron Sting artillery mines.
Elbit Systems demonstrated a new mortar system in January last year. Now, the Israeli Defense Ministry has announced the completion of acceptance tests of the Iron Sting and the imminent arrival of "smart" mortars into service.
Tests of corrected Iron Sting mines
According to the technical description, the Iron Sting is a 120 mm ammunition. The target range is from 1 km to 12 km, the deviation from the aiming point is less than 1 m (with laser guidance). Using the GPS coordinates of the target increases the possibility of deviation up to 10 m. The description of the video indicates that the shot was fired from an autonomous computerized mortar CARDOM.
To guide the Iron Sting, a laser beam is used. The video shows the possibility of pointing a portable designator, as well as using a drone. The result of the tests was the defeat of a static target with high accuracy.
Earlier, similar developments were demonstrated in the United States and France.
