The creation of the Liana naval reconnaissance and target designation system in orbit is nearing completion.
Unique satellites will be able to detect enemy ships from thousands of kilometers away in any corner of the World Ocean and accurately aim at them with winged "Calibers", as well as hypersonic "Daggers" and "Zircons".
This year, it is planned to complete the deployment of the Liana space reconnaissance and target designation system, as well as several additional elements of it, sources in the Defense Ministry told Izvestia.
Last year, the head of the department, Sergei Shoigu, announced the imminent completion of the creation of one of the key components of the Liana — the Pion-NKS spacecraft with an active radar. For four years, the topic of completing the construction and testing of this satellite has been discussed at meetings of the highest command staff. Earlier, Sergei Shoigu even stressed that this is a state-scale task. Nevertheless, the schedule for creating the device had to be adjusted several times.
Currently, only one of the two components of Liana is deployed in orbit — five Lotus-S1 passive radio reconnaissance satellites. But the full functions of the system can be implemented only after its replenishment with active devices "Pion-NKS". It is they who can see sea and land targets day and night in any weather and issue target designation for their destruction with high-precision weapons.
