Hangzhou. February 22. INTERFAX-Chinese automaker Geely Holdings Group will launch commercial satellites this year, the company said.
The State Committee for Development and Reform of the People's Republic of China has issued a permit for the organization of satellite production at the plant, which is owned by Geely Technology Group.
Thus, Geely will become the first automaker in China that will be able to produce spacecraft for commercial use, according to the Xinhua news agency.
The first batch of equipment has already been delivered to the plant, located in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province in the east of the country. Production is expected to start in October this year. The design capacity of the plant will exceed 500 satellites per year.
According to Geely, it has created an industrial chain covering the development, production, launch and market application of spacecraft.
