MOSCOW, 20 Feb-RIA Novosti. Kabul would welcome progress in negotiations with Moscow on the supply of weapons, Russian helicopters have proven their effectiveness in combat operations, said the Ambassador of Afghanistan to the Russian Federation, Saeed Tayeb Javad, in an interview with RIA Novosti.

He noted that this topic may be raised during the visit to Moscow next week by the IRA Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar. As stated earlier in the Russian Foreign Ministry, Atmar's visit will take place from 24 to 27 February.

"I don't know about the new agreement yet, but we will need to talk about it after the minister's visit. But in general, we would welcome some progress in this area, " the Afghan ambassador said.

"We have a renewed, fairly young air force, so we would welcome it if we could develop our cooperation with Russia in this area. In previous years, we have been supplied, directly and through partners, for example, India, Russian helicopters (multi-purpose Mi-35), they have proven their effectiveness in combat conditions, " Javad said.
