On the evening of Tuesday, February 9, unknown persons fired at the Syrian air base Khmeimim, which is the main base of the group of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria.
Located near the Mediterranean coast, the base was attacked by long-range multiple rocket launchers, RIA Novosti quotes the words of the deputy head of the Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties of the Russian Federation in the SAR, Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik.

"There are no victims or material damage. The Russian Khmeimim air base is functioning as planned, " Sytnik concluded.
At the base in Khmeimim there are about 30 aircraft of various types. This is a multi - purpose fighter generation 4 su-35S, a supersonic fighter-bomber su-34 tactical frontline bombers su-24, transport-combat Mi-35 helicopters and transport-attack helicopters Mi-8AMTSH.
Khmeimim is "covered" by a dome with a diameter of 400 kilometers - the destruction of the enemy is guaranteed by the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems, and on the near approaches, the sky is guarded by the Tor M2 SAM and the Pantsir M ZRPC. It is due to the fact that the right to eliminate the target was obtained directly by the commanders of the SAM, the base promptly destroys all missiles and other attacking objects.
"Our air defense systems have proven in practice that they can [not only] detect targets such as rockets and drones, but also effectively destroy them. In addition, they are able to destroy cruise missiles, and S-400-and ballistic targets, " - said earlier the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov.
