For the first time in 30 years, the Russian Defense Ministry will not take part in the OSCE seminar on military doctrines. The demarche was announced by the head of the Russian delegation to the negotiations on military security and arms control Konstantin Gavrilov.
This is due to the fact that the expansion of NATO is interpreted as a deterrent to Russia. His statement is published by RIA Novosti.
According to Gavrilov, the Americans invited us, and we told them that due to the current situation on the borders of Russia with the conduct of exercises and flights of reconnaissance aircraft, the Russian Defense Ministry considers it inappropriate to participate in this seminar. By the way, for the first time in 30 years.
Our country has always been extremely loyal to all Western initiatives to control weapons and strengthen military security in Europe. But there is a limit to everything. All the years that have passed since the collapse of the USSR, the military-political bloc of NATO is expanding, coming close to the borders of the Russian Federation. Our country is constantly presented as a potential aggressor both in Europe and in the United States. Anti-Russian hysteria already looks like some kind of paranoia. In such an environment, Russia's participation in the discussion of certain military doctrines becomes meaningless.
However, according to Gavrilov, the Russian delegation will take part in the negotiations on arms control in the "final remarks with a statement on military doctrines".
The seminar is held this year on February 9-10 in a remote format. It is organized by the United States as the chairs of the OSCE Forum on Security Cooperation. The seminar is held every five years.
