As reported on February 5, 2021, the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, test flights of the new reconnaissance unmanned aircraft complex "Shagala"took place. The UAV was developed by military scientists of the National Defense University of Kazakhstan named after the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy (NUO).

The report of the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan says that the practice of using UAVs in modern military conflicts has proved the need to develop its own analogue. The NUO conducted an analysis of the use of not only reconnaissance drones, but also attack drones as an effective weapon against enemy armored vehicles and manpower.
The prototype of the Shagala reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicle is equipped with a software and hardware communication channel, its own cryptographic protocol, and secure communication channels.
- I positively assess the desire to provide the troops with domestic developments in the field of UAVs. However, this should not be a blind tracing paper from foreign analogues, it is necessary to take into account all the needs of the Kazakh army, our geographical features for defensive purposes when developing the tactical and technical characteristics of domestic vehicles, " said Deputy Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General Timur Dandybayev.
During field tests of the experimental model, military scientists tested the latest development of a power source resistant to low temperatures. The unique battery pack is one of the latest developments of the specialists of the National Defense University.
The Deputy Minister of Defense drew attention to the fact that the production of Kazakh UAVs involves a deep integration of the capabilities of the domestic defense industry, minimizing the import of components and assemblies not produced in Kazakhstan.
For mass production BLAH "Shaғala", given the capabilities of the domestic military-industrial complex developed service programs and training technicians and operators, and training UAV operators for implementation in educational institutions and parts of the armed forces of Kazakhstan.
According to the head of the military research center, Colonel Kuandyk Akshulakov, the Shagala unmanned aerial vehicle is not inferior in technical characteristics to foreign analogues, but on the contrary has certain advantages.
- The range of the UAV is up to 30 kilometers. It can stay in the air for up to two and a half hours, and it behaves steadily when the wind increases to 14 meters per second. In the future, we plan that it will be put into service in the troops in the link - from a platoon to a battalion, " said the head of the military research center, Colonel Kuandyk Akshulakov.
In the program of test flights, various stages of preparation and operating modes of the Shagala UAV were presented.
The results of the scientific work are patented and at the end of the experimental military operation, all the developments will be transferred to the military-industrial complex of Kazakhstan.
For reference: Since 2014, the National Defense University named after the First President of Kazakhstan - Elbasy has been conducting research in the field of unmanned systems, studying both production technologies and the procedure for their use in the interests of the armed forces of Kazakhstan. In 2020, the National Defense University successfully submitted the final reports on scientific and scientific-technical activities for 13 projects of grant funding and three projects of program-targeted funding.
