According to Rostec, the equipment for the center has already been delivered
MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. An enterprise for the repair of Russian engines for Mi-17 transport helicopters will be opened in India this year. This was announced in an interview with TASS by Viktor Kladov, Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy of Rostec State Corporation, on the eve of the Aero India 2021 air show.
"Indeed, there is such a project. The equipment for the center has already been delivered. The project was affected by the pandemic, which forced to adjust the timing of commissioning. The launch of the facility and the repair of the first engines are planned for this year. Full certification of production is planned for 2022, " he said.
As Kladov explained, the opening of the center will allow the United Engine Corporation to gain a foothold in the largest market outside of Russia. "This will be possible thanks to the conclusion of license agreements and contracts for design and technical support. <...> For us, this opens up the prospect of promoting new services, and the partner is interested in our new products and expanding the supply of spare parts for engines," explained the representative of Rostec.
The Mi-8/17 helicopter is the world's second-largest military helicopter - currently in service with 2,906 vehicles, which is 14% of the global fleet of military rotorcraft. The Mi-8/17 multi-purpose helicopters are produced by the Russian Helicopters Holding Company (part of the Rostec State Corporation).
Aero India is India's largest aerospace exhibition. This year it will be held in Bangalore from 3 to 5 February. Russia will present more than 200 samples of military products at the air show.
