SAMARA, January 29 - RIA Novosti. The S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system has entered combat duty in the Samara region, the press service of the Central Military District reported on Friday.
"The latest S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system has taken over combat duty for the defense of the airspace of the Volga regions," the report says.
According to the commander of the 14th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Central Military District, Major General Vladimir Melnikov, the rearmament allowed to increase the combat capabilities of the anti-aircraft missile regiment by 1.7 times. "A distinctive feature of the system is the increased area of destruction, within which the destruction of all existing and promising means of air attack is carried out," Melnikov said, whose words are quoted in the message.
According to the press service, the S-400 "Triumph" was received for service in December 2020, the transfer of equipment and the first combat launch took place at the Kapustin Yar test site in the Astrakhan region.
Earlier it was reported that two air defense regiments in the Sverdlovsk and Samara regions were re-equipped with the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system in 2020.
S-400 "Triumph" is designed for highly effective destruction of strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles, hypersonic targets and other means of air attack in the conditions of electronic and other types of counteraction. The system is capable of hitting aerodynamic and ballistic targets.
