TSAMTO, January 12. The US State Department has approved the potential delivery to Egypt under the Foreign Military Sales program of advanced Sniper-ATP aerial target designation containers and related equipment.
The total cost of the sale could be $ 65.6 million. The DoD Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on December 29, 2020.
The Egyptian government has asked the US administration to sell 20 advanced AN/AAQ-33 "Sniper-ATP" air suspension containers.
The request also includes pylons, shipping containers, repair parts, ground handling equipment, technical documentation, software and support, personnel training, engineering, technical and logistics support from the U.S. government and contractor, flight testing and certification, and other related logistics and software support elements.
As stated, the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will increase the combat potential of the country, which is the main non-NATO ally in the Middle East.
As noted in the notification, the sale of the requested equipment will increase Egypt's ability to counter existing and future threats, providing an additional opportunity for high-precision targeting of aviation ammunition during operations to ensure border security and counter terrorism. Additional precision strike capabilities will allow the Egyptian Armed Forces to conduct operations with minimal collateral damage. At the same time, the Egyptian Armed Forces will not experience difficulties in accepting additional equipment for service.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics was selected as the general contractor for the project.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and cost of sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed sales contracts, if they are concluded.
